KATHY VARGAS Click to view more work Kathy Vargas is among the best fine art photographers in the country, combining in her images darkroom techniques with the application of colors by hand as only a painter would. Born in San Antonio, Texas, Vargas had a retrospective of her work in 2001 at the McNay Museum in that city. She has had many one-person exhibitions in the U.S., Mexico, and Europe; she has also been the focus of various scholarly publications. Her lyrical photographs have been acquired by many museums, such as the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institute; Mexican Museum, San Francisco, California; the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.; and the Museum of Fine Art, Huston, Texas. Vargas obtained an M.FA from the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she resides.
